70s Hair styles
The 70’s hairstyles were all about the natural
look. Women were trying to move away from the style of the 50’s and 60’s where
the use of accessories was over done. Women spent hours fusing over their hair
cuts in order to get that perfect look. Some of them were a bit haphazard and
wild but most of them still retain their popularity with today’s woman albeit
with a different touch. Thirty years ago, there weren’t so many accessories
available and so women had to take that extra bit of pain to get a natural
look. For instance, there was no straightening iron which meant women had to
make do with what was available.
Women loved the
straight hair look in the 70’s and they got it done with regular cloth irons.
They used to take turns to do it for each other. The modern woman still loves
the style but has got a wide array of various types of straightening irons at
her disposal. That makes it easier for her.
Another style which
was popular back in the 70’s as it is now is the afro haircut. That was the
time when black people were just starting to enjoy powers in society. They grew
their hair as a sign that they too had it in them to go up into the upper echelons
of the fashion world. It created a craze which doesn’t seem as if it is going
out of style anytime soon.
There were also some
styles which though quite popular in their heydays haven’t made a comeback. An
example is the mullet. The hairdo consisted of cutting the hair quite short on
the sides and on the top while letting the back grow long. This was an authentic
rock and roll style which was loved by people in those days. It seemed to fit
the general mindset of the 70’s woman.
And then there some
styles which haven’t lost their fan following even one iota. Every girl wanted
to get the feathered Ferrah Fawcett look back then and it’s still loved by
women and girls equally all over the world today. Unlike some other hairstyles
this hasn’t even seen an update. An important reason for that might be the fact
that this hairdo required almost no products. Simply blow dry your hair in an
up and under motion to get the volume and then blow dry it around the face.
The difference
between the hairstyles of today and that of the 70’s I the amount of products
that are used today. The styles were more natural then. Its amazing how time
has changed that women use products to get the natural look of the 70’s. As we
read more extensively we will find that these are only some of the many hairdos
which have survived the effect of time. But some like the mullet are not going
to a comeback into vogue. One realizes that the 70’s have a time of great
inspiration for we see the fresh looks of 2008 to be derived from then.
